Archaeology Notes

NS41NW 6 42 16.

Rim sherds of a collared cinerary urn from Carlin Hill, Coylton (Parish name: NS 42 16) which were formerly in Thornhill Museum, are now in Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum. They were found in a mound with another urn which disintegrated on exposure.(The name: "Carlin Hill" has not been located in Coylton parish, possibly Carline Knowe in the neighbouring Dalrymple parish - see NS41SW 1 - is intended).

A Morrison 1968

The recorder's conclusion is probably correct because the finds compare with those from the tumulus on Carline Knowe and it seems unlikely that there would be two such features in the same locality.
