Archaeology Notes

NS20SW 2 c. 20 04

A large cairn of stones stood on Balkenna, at about the level of the new shore road. Several cists with human remains were found when it was removed.

There is no trace of this cairn to be seen in the vicinity of Balkenna Cottages and Bridge (NS 201 046).

When a large cairn which stood on the farm of Balkenna (NS 202 043) at about the level of the new shore road ... ' was removed, several cists were found. Balkenna is now part of the farm of Drumbeg.
