There are local tales of a battle fought in the vicinity of Gartmain (NR 335 604).

F Celoria 1959.

A battle was fought on Sliabh a' Chatha (name: NR 347 606), a low moorland ridge. The parties involved were "Fenians" and "Danes", the latter being defeated and driven back to their vessels, anchored in Lochindaal. The date of the battle is unknown.

Name Book 1878.

Nothing significant noted on this rounded pastoral ridge.
