Scurdie Ness [name: NO 735 567].

Location formerly entered as NO 7300 5720 [N56 42.3516 W2 26.4618] and NO c. 735 567 [N56 42.1 W2 26].

Large Naval target. Bound from Montrose to unknown destination. Lost 2 Mar 1945, 5.45pm GMT. 20 yards east of Montrose Ness lighthouse, North Sea. Wind north west, force 2. Swell from north east. Cause of wreck, tow rope parted while crossing the bar. No person on board. 'Was being towed by Naval Tug SEAMAN M44 and drifted ashore where it now lies awash at high water. Target, which was built at Montrose, is about 130 feet in length and is constructed of solid timber weighing approximately 300 ton.'

(Location entered as NO c. 733 567 [N56 42.1 W2 26.3]). The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. This vessel apparently stranded on the rocks around the base of Montroseness (Scurdie Ness) Lighthouse (NO75NW 48), which is at NO 73322 56758.

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
