The discovery of three cannons is recorded 'near the forward gun of HMS Argyll [NO72NE 8002] at the Bell Rock'. Two are 'short' and one 'long'. In 1800 Stevenson found a cannon ball on the rock along with 101kg of other wreckage on the rock while looking where to site the lighthouse [NO72NE 1].
These discoveries may be equate with the recorded loss of the warship York [NO72NE 8012] in 1804.

Note (3 February 2012)
(Location entered as NO c. 758 268 [N56 26.00 W2 23.50]). The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from that (NO 7584 2685: N56 26.00 W2 23.50) entered for the wreck of HMS Argyll (NO72NE 8002).
The suggestion that these discoveries may be equated with the recorded loss of the warship York [NO72NE 8012] in 1804 remains unconfirmed.
