Archaeology Notes

NO60NW 49.09 63233 09071

A type 27 pillbox is situated in what is now a cultivated field to the E of the main technical area of Crail Airfield. Built of brick and concrete, the structure has a grass covering on the roof and an earth bank surrounding the base. The pillbox forms part of the airfield defence system and was formerly within a loop of a perimeter track inside the airfield boundary. The pillbox is visible on post-war RAF vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 5, 4079-80, flown 14 April 1946) to the NE of two aircraft hangars which have since been removed.

Information from RCAHMS and visited by D Easton, January 2002
