Archaeology Notes

NO35SW 41 3102 5187.

NO 3103 5188 (information from F T Wainwright). A souterrain on Barns of Airlie was destroyed long before 1862 and a cottage has been built on the site which lies on the south slope of a ridge and is well-drained, and in all respects suitable for a souterrain.

F T Wainwright 1963; A Jervise 1865.

The footings of a small rectangular building at NO 3102 5187 (shown intact but unnamed on the OS 25" map, County Series) are probably the remains of the cottage noted by Jervise (1865).

No further information.

Visited by OS (TRG) 12 January 1977.
