(NO 3889 4761) Icehouse (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1959)

The original ice-house was built by Earl Patrick about 1669, in the steep high west bank of the stream about 600 yards SE of the castle. It was abandoned as unsafe about 1810, when another was built in the high bank behind where the Home Farm now is, to W of, and nearer to Glamis Castle.

E A Urquhart 1962.

The 17th century icehouse is still visible as a large, earthen mound, c. 2.0m high, its successor is built into a natural bank, at NO 3782 4798.

Visited by OS (W D J) 8 December 1967.
