Pitlessie Lime Works comprised the W end of the complex of limestone quarries and works. Much of the area is now under pasture and used for sheep grazing, but the main quarry areas can still be discerned, in particular a N-S cutting at (from NO 3378 0835 to NO 3370 0805). Several single clamp-kilns survive amongst the spoil heaps (see NO30NW 113.02-113.03).
Pitlessie Lime Works only appears as a separate entity on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife & Kinross, 1856, sheet 17), thereafter being depicted on the later editions of the OS maps as part of the larger company. The OS Name Book notes that Pitlessie Lime Works were 'an extensive Lime Works on the farm of Brotus ... property of the Earl of Glasgow' (ONB 1856)
