A chapel dedicated to St Mary stood upon the grange of Balbrogie and is listed amongst the possessions of Coupar Angus abbey. It is on record in 1472.

This may have been the chapel upon the site of which the mausoleum of the Kinlochs of Kinloch (NO24SE 22) at Chapelton (NO 2725 4418) is said to stand.
