Place of discovery: NO 2872 4459

Present location: Meigle Museum.

Evidence for discovery: found in the churchyard in the twentieth century.

Present condition: broken and the carving is extensively damaged.

Description

This is the upper part of a small cross-slab, which is carved in relief on one broad face only. Within a wide border of interlace is a panel defined by a roll moulding, which contains a relief-carved plain cross with rectangular terminals and circular centre.

Date: ninth or tenth century.

The upper part of a cross-slab (0.33m high by 0.36m broad and 0.11m thick) bears the head of a cross with rounded armpits carved in relief; the broad border of the slab has been decorated with interlace. Information from RCAHMS (JNGR) 1990.
