Field Visit (4 June 1988)

NO16NW 74 1095 6984

Some 50m SE of Logie cottage, and overlooking an unnamed tributary of the Shee Water, there are the wasted remains of a rectangular building with an enclosure on its NNE side. The building measures 12.4m from NW to SE by 4.8m transversely over boulder-footings; the enclosure, 26m from NNE to SSW by 14.3m transversely internally. The enclosure is depicted by Brown (1808) and stands apart from the farmstead of Balln-Ault, which is shown as unroofed.

The farmstead is depicted by Stobie (1783) and probably stood on the site now occupied by Logie cottage.

Visited by RCAHMS (IMS/PC) 4 June 1988.

Field Visit (5 February 2018 - 8 February 2018)

A pre-afforestation survey was undertaken of an area of hillside rough pasture on the N-facing slopes of Meall Uaine and Craig Bhinnean, on the S side of Glen Shee. Previous work had identified six sites within the proposed area of planting, including building and enclosure remains and an extensive pre-Improvement field system. Following a desk-based review of available sources, a site visit was made to assess the likely impact on known sites and record any new features encountered. Recommendations include a buffer zone to protect the field system and associated remains.
