(NO 1613 4463) 'A bank, with a ditch on the north side - Mediaeval? - with the area to the south flat and having blackish soil. Habitation site?'.

Information from O G S Crawford 1 May 1940

Activities

Field Visit (21 March 1963)

The bank and ditch run from NO 1617 4463 to NO 1608 4467. There is a second bank on the north side of the ditch, more fragmentary than the bank on the south side. Near the west end of the feature is a gap which may be an original entrance but is more probably a later mutilation. No indication of habitation other than the blackish soil mentioned by Crawford was noticed in the area south of the earthwork. It is possible that the ditch is part of an old drainage system connected to the loch which was the fore-runner of the Moss of Ardblair. (See NO14SE 1).

Surveyed 1/2500 Visited by OS (RDL) 21 March 1963.
