For tollhouse at Edendon (NN 7157 7061), see NN77SW 6.

Coming from Dalnamein, the military road follows the modern road to Dalnacardoch. About a mile beyond Dalnamein, and just before Dalnacardoch, which is now a shooting lodge but formerly a kingshouse at NN 7215 7029 (NN77SW 13.01), is the junction with the military road from Stirling and Crieff (NN77SW 7, MR 3). This junction, in a significant situation, was of major importance. Just past the former inn, by the last cottage, the road climbs up to the E, to the right of the modern road, and remains above the latter. It runs down to Edendon Bridge at NN 7163 7060 (NN77SW 13.02), which acted as a toll house on the nineteenth century road. A modern bridge at NN 7163 7060 (NN77SW 13.02) on the northbound carriageway of the A9 is on the same site as Wade's bridge. From this point the military road continues along the line of electricity pylons for almost a mile, to the right of the well-separated dual carriageways of the modern road. It has been made accessible by road engineers through gates at NN 714 708 to the S and at NN 703 713 to the N. Taylor (1976) comments that it traverses the remains of a bridge over an unnamed burn at NN 712 709 (NN77SW 13.03), whereas J and A Baker (1982) record that the first burn is crossed by a stone culvert, probably built by Wade. When the road reaches a quarry at NN 702 715 it rejoins the modern road.

Field Visit (21 January 1998)

A 1km section of the military road, running up Glen Garry, was recorded during a pre-afforestation survey by Headland Archaeology (NMRS MS 899/56). The carriageway is approximately 4.5m wide and is flanked by banks. The bank on the N, or upslope, side is more substantial and has a ditch outside it for part of its course. Two culverts were noted at NN c.7047 7123 and NN c.7058 7114 whilst quarries were observed at NN c.714 712 and NN c.710 709 to NN c.712 708
