Archaeology Notes

NN76SW 14 centred on 718 609.

To the left of Bohespie, in a sheltered hollow near the Allt na Moine Buidhe, is a Wade military encampment. The place is in ruins, but a ground plan, similar to Ruthven Barracks (NN79NE 1), can still be traced.

J B Salmond 1934

There are some twenty rectangular buildings at Blackpart, fourteen of which are built in two rows of eight and six. They average 7.0m x 4.0m with walls surviving to 2.0m high in places. No evidence of similarity to Ruthven Barracks here.

Visited by OS 7 July 1969

Nine unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building of approximately 65m and another is T-shaped, one roofed building, two enclosues and a field-system are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet xxviii). Eight unroofed buildings, five enclosures and the fragmentary remains of the field-system are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1988).
