Present location: within the east end of the church at Fortingall.
Evidence for discovery: found in the late nineteenth century in the walls of the church when it was demolished.
Present condition: broken edges and worn surfaces.
Description
This fragment is a central portion of a very thin cross-slab carved in relief on both faces with part of a ringed cross-head outlined by roll mouldings. Face A shows the lower arm or shaft of a plain cross with a ring containing double-strand interlace, and a similar cross-head on face C has a ring filled with spiral work. In both cases the shallow curved armpits are closed by a straight length of roll moulding, with spirals in the angle between the moulding and the ring of the cross.
Date: eighth or ninth century.
