(NN 7872 1958) Roman Stone (NR)

OS 6" map (1901)

"Supposed to mark the grave of one of the heroes who fell at the battle of Mons Grampus" (sic).

Name Book 1860.

Stands on a small grassy knoll which shows no signs of any other stones. A square-edged, massive block of conglomerate schist with a basal girth of 12ft 8ins and a height of 8ft 7ins. Locally known as "the Roman Stone" but no different from the majority of standing stones.

NN 7873 1958 The standing stone NN71NE2 has three small cup marks on its eastern side and one large cup mark on the western side.
