NN 468 021. A crannog was found in Loch Ard on 5th September 1965 by Mr V Scott, Stirling, of the Forth Valley Sub Aqua Club. It lies "approximately 150 yds from the N shore and 80 yds beyond Altskeith Hotel", in 12" of water, with its top 2' below the surface. It comprises a mass of boulders about 40' in diameter with a regular pattern of sharpened stakes around the circumference, one of which was recovered and had a mortice cut in the end opposite the point. Some possible hearth stones and potsherds of Iron Age/Dark Age type also were also recovered.

No trace was seen of this crannog, which was sited at NN 4653 0211.

Loch Ard, Altskeith NN 465 021 NN40SE 1

This submerged crannog measures 12m in diameter and consists of a mound of stones surrounded by timber piles; one of the piles measured 2.3m in length by 0.15m thick and bore a mortice at its upper end.
