Archaeology Notes

NN32NW 18 3297 2997

When originally opened (as the interim terminus) Tyndrum station was merely a couple of platforms on either side of a passing loop. There were no substantial structures although several sidings, a turntable and an engine shed were provided. The two latter buildings were removed when the line was extended to Dalmally; the sidings remained until 1965 and their area is now occupied by a caravan park. [No differentiation is apparently made in this work between this station and the present lower station, NN33SW 13].

C E J Fryer 1989.

This intermediate station on the Callander-Crianlarich-Oban line of the (former) Caledonian Rly was opened (as Tyndrum Station) in August 1873 by the Callander and Oban Rly. It closed on 1 May 1877, being replaced by the present Tyndrum Lower Station (NN33SW 13), 275m to the NW.

R V J Butt 1995.
