Field Visit (2010)
Kilmelfort power station contains a single 2MW undershot Gilkes turbine, utilising water from Oude and Tralaig reservoirs (see separate items) and an additional 75KW compensation set. The station is small scale and was originally designed to provide power to the immediate area. Kilmelfort is a good example of a small scale power scheme designed to meet local demand. The station is also an example of the work of prominent architect Ian G Lindsay in this sector. PL Payne, 1988, 5; E Wood, 2002, 38; J Miller, 2002.
