Field Visit (2010)
Tralaig Dam provides water storage and flow regulation for Kilmelford Power Station (see separate item). Water from the dam passes through a small compensation set before entering the stream bed below the downstream face of the dam and flowing into Oude Dam (see separate item) which provides additional storage and flow regulation for the power station. The dam is of mass gravity type, it is relatively small in scale with two large earth embankment wings flanking a small central spillway and control tower incorporating comp set. This is a relatively small dam of predominantly standard design with limited landscape contribution. PL Payne, 1988, 5; E Wood, 2002, 38; J Miller, 2002.
