Archaeology Notes

NM04NW 11 0460 4922.

(Area:NM 045 492) A V-shaped ditch, 6' across the top, encloses an area 23 yds square, less than 100 yds inland from NM04NW 4, Dun Beg Vaul.

The inner face of the ditch is built up with small stones in places.

The area within the ditch is slightly elevated and contains a large number of round and oval depressions.

The purpose and nature of the site are not known.

(The given NGR NM 046 493 falls in the sea)

E R Cregeen 1958.

The local farmer states that this area at NM 0460 4922 was almost certainly used for storing potatoes in pits.

Visited by OS (R D) 23 June 1972.
