The eastern dispersal area is situated between the former Fraserburgh to St Combs branch railway and the outer perimeter track to the SW of Cairndenity (NK06SW 113).
The area is visible on RAF WW II vertical air photographs (NLA 57, 5003-5004, flown 21 February 1943), which show that at that date there was only one extra over blister hangar, five huts and three e-shaped blast pens. By the date of the postwar vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 108, 4002-4003, flown 23 May 1946), the dipersal area had been augmented by two enlarged blister hangars in a different location from that seen in 1943. Imagery taken in 1988 (All Scotland Survey [Jasair], 07 88 060-062, flown 6 May 1988) and the current OS 1:2500 scale digital map, show that by these dates the area had been cleared of buildings and blast pens and only the bases of two huts are shown on the map.
About 400m NW was another small dispersal area with one blister hangar visible on the 1946 air photographs, but not the 1943 series. This area has now been built over by housing estate.
