(NJ 9411 0770 and NJ 9412 0772) Urns found (NAT)

OS 25" map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed. (1901).

Two urns, both broken, have been found in St Peter's Cemetery, one in May of 1865 and the other about 1855. 'Nothing was discovered where they lay except a small quantity of peat ashes and the slightest vestiges of human bones. By the information which I obtained concerning them I am of the opinion they were of the early British type'.(information from Wm Clarke, Sexton, St Peter's Cemetery).

Name Book 1866.

No further information. A modern cemetery occupies the site.

Visited by OS (JLD) 11 October 1952.

The indicated location falls on a moderate NE-facing slope at an altitude of about 20m OD, and within the modern St Peter's cemetery.

NMRS, MS/712/83.

The present whereabouts of these two urns, which were found in the 19th century, are not known.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 8 May 1997.
