(NJ 7863 1031) Standing Stone (NR)

An irregular shaped stone standing on end, about 4ft (1.2m) in height.

Name Book 1866.

(Name cited as Easter Fornet).

NMRS, MS/712/68.

This standing stone has been removed. It stood in what is now a cultivated field 450m SSE of South Fornet farmsteading (NJ71SE 47) and is first depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lxxiv). It is described in the Original Name Book, written about 1866, as 'an irregular-shaped stone standing on end in a fir plantation near to Easter Fornet, is about 4 feet [1.2m] high and belongs to the ancient class of standing stones.'
