Archaeology Notes

NJ41SW 38.04 414 147

(Location cited as NJ 414 147). A series of rough stone linear monuments is located in this area. These are interconnected and in various states of disrepair, but seem to have served a revetting function when following the contours, but also serving as enclosures. They have survived as 1m wide, 0.2-0.4m high patchy structures, with some of the stones tumbled downhill.

Visited by CFA, October 1992.

CFA 1993; MS/625/32.

(Location cited as NJ 414 148). The remains of at least three rectangular structures, possibly dwellings, with a series of rough stone dykes. These are interconnected and in various states of repair; there are also stone clearance heaps.

Information from Mrs M Greig (Grampian Regional Council), 24 April 1995.

(Reclassified as field-system and field clearance cairns: location cited as NJ 414 147). Other than the huts described above, there is no evidence for settlement on Dalrossach Hill, and the field-system appears to be limited to a number of short stony banks and clearance cairns of relatively modern date.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, ATW), 28 April 1997.
