Cairn [NAT]

A conical stone and concrete cairn, erected in 1908 to the memory of General Sir Alexander Leith.

Visited by CFA, October 1992.

CFA 1993n; MS/625/32.

(Reclassified as monument). On the summit of Dalrossach Hill there is a memorial cairn in memory of Sir Alexander Leith, whose actual grave may be seen in Towie churchyard (NJ41SW 1). It is conical in shape, measuring about 2.8m in diameter at the base and about 6m in height, and is constructed of large quartz and granite blocks cemented together. On the S side of the cairn there is a plaque which reads 'Erected in Affectionate Memory of General Sir Alexander Leith, KCB of Freefield and Glenkindie, born 1774, died 1859, by his family, old servants, and an attached tenantry'.
