Activities

Field Visit (30 May 2019)

This boundary stone, which is one of a series that once defined the extent of the War Department property on the North Sutor, forms part of the infrastructure of the battery introduced by the Army during World War 2. It is situated in a shelter belt immediately N of what remains of the WWII security fence (NH86NW 9.51). It is a cast concrete pillar, roughly triangular on plan, with a flat back and a sloping top, measuring 0.47m high, 0.31m broad and 0.25m thick. The flat top bears the impressed legend ‘W’ and ‘D’ on either side of an upward pointing arrow, with the letters ‘BS’ and the number ‘5’ below.

Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK), 30 May 2019.
