Activities

Field Visit (30 March 2019)

What little remains of this searchlight emplacement is situated on the beach below an eroding sand dune. The debris comprises the reinforced cast concrete flat roof and fragments of brickwork from its walls. An undated sketch map of the battery in the Fort Record Book held at the National Archives at Kew (WO192/248) identifies this emplacement as ‘No 2 Searchlight’; and it is also shown on an aerial photograph (CPE/Scot/UK/0293 SFFO 0044) flown on 17 September 1947.

Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK, KLG), 30 March 2019.
