Activities

Field Visit (30 March 2019)

This grass-grown building platform is situated in rough pasture 3.5m N of the U1456 public road. It is rectangular on plan and measures 10.5m from ENE to WSW by 4.6m transversely and is enclosed within a grass-grown bank 3.3m thick and 0.5m high. An undated sketch map of the battery in the Fort Record Book held at the National Archives at Kew (WO192/248) illustrates the building but does not identify its function. However, it is shown to have been a Nissen Hut on an aerial photograph (CPE/Scot/UK/0293 SFFO 0044) flown on 17 September 1947.

Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK, KLG), 30 March 2019.
