Archaeology Notes

NG32NE 7 380 273.

NG 380 273. On the west side of Glen Eynort at a height of about 250' OD is a depopulated township comprising about 8 houses with byres or outbuildings, two of which are still in use. A considerable amount of lazy-bed cultivation is evident in the area. (Township visible on RAF air photographs CPE/Scot/UK/274: 3173-4)

This is probably a remnant of the township 'Clachan Eynort' shown by Johnson in 1824 (W Johnson's Map of Skye, 1824)

Visited by OS (C F W) 8 June 1961.

A township, comprising eleven unroofed buildings is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye 1881, sheet xxxvii). One roofed building and ten unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1965).

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 12 November 1996.
