Archaeology Notes

NF75NE 4.06 78260 56184, 78351 56331 and 78401 56497

Three half size T2 type aircraft hangars were situated on the W side of the airfield between the runways and the coast. The remains of the three concrete bases for the buildings are still visible in the area. They are in varying stages of delapidation along with the former taxiways leading to the hangars.

The three aircraft hangars are visible on vertical air photographs taken in 1946 (CPE/Scot/UK191, 4041-4043, flown 10 October 1946). The concrete bases can also be seen on more recent vertical air photographs taken in 1987 (All Scotland Survey 04 87, frames 155-156, flown 22 May 1987).
