Archaeology Notes

ND49SE 38 4708 9078

(Location cited as ND 471 908). Fishery, Kirkhouse Point, 18th century. Typical of many Orkney fisheries, with a sheltered inlet, possibly artificially improved, and a group of hand-operated winches, one wood-framed, for hauling boats out of the water. Unusually, there is the ruin of a one-storey and attic rubble storehouse, with an external stair.

J R Hume 1977.
