(ND 4656 8900) St Ninian's Chapel and Burial Ground (NR) (site of)

OS 6" map (1900)

Applies to the site of a Romish chapel situated immediately E of the standing stone (ND48NE 1) believed to have been established about the 14th century. Its foundations were removed about three years ago (c. 1876) when the land was cultivated. The outline of the burial ground is now unknown.

Name Book 1879

There are no obvious traces of the chapel or burial ground apart from a roughly rectangular and slightly raised area measuring 12.0m E-W and 6.0m N-S immediately adjacent to the standing stone which could be the site of the chapel.

Visited by OS (IMT) 4 May 1973.
