Archaeology Notes

ND16NW 183 10684 69148

A brick built pillbox with concrete roof is situated within the remains of Scrabster Castle (see ND16NW 3). To the E, along a small pebble beach is a single line of anti-tank blocks.

Visited 24 March 1997.

Information from Allan K Kilpatrick to RCAHMS, 25 March 1997.

A brick and concrete pillbox is situated on top of the castle remains. Some of the brickwork has now gone. A single line of concrete anti-tank blocks are situated on the beach below the castle. One block has a date carved into the concrete.

J Guy 2000; NMRS MS 810/10, Vol.1, 34, Vol.3, 10-11.

The anti-tank blocks are visible on RAF vertical air photographs (CPE/Scot/UK185, 1215-1217, flown 9 October 1946) on both sides of Scrabster Castle, a short length covering the mouth of the Burnside Burn and another longer length at the high tide mark to the E.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), October 2004
