Torran Dubhach: 'This name signifies the 'woeful' or 'sorrowful knoll' and applies to three small knolls situated on the N of the River Fleet. The conflict of Torran Dubhach took place in 1517, between the McKays of Strathnaver and the inhabitants of the SE of Sutherland. The former were totally routed after suffering considerable loss.'

Three natural mounds in cultivated ground, accentuated by being ploughed round the base and with field clearance stones dumped upon them.

NC 708 036 A watching brief was carried out in November 2000 on the excavation of a trench for a water main adjacent to the site of the Battle of Torran Dubhach in 1517 (NMRS NC70SW 8). No archaeological features or objects were revealed.

Three natural mounds, identified by previous authorities with a battle in 1517, are situated in an improved field and have been accentuated by ploughing around the base and supplemented by clearance. The two N mounds (NC 7080 0364, NC 7093 0364) are glacial in origin, while the S mound (NC 7089 0359) is a spur on the leading edge of the terrace above the haughland.
