Archaeology Notes

NC70SE 21 7677 0109.

NC 7677 0109 An oval hut measuring 12.0m N-S by 11.5m between wall centres. The entrance is in the S.

Contemporary cultivation is indicated by one or two stone clearance heaps nearby.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (J M) 17 July 1975.

A small structure, measuring 3m in diameter, with substantial 1m thick stone walls, about 20m to the ENE of the hut-circle previously recorded by the OS, was observed by J Wordsworth during a pre-afforestation survey.

An area of small cairns or clearance cairns was noted between the hut-circle and the Aberscross Burn (also described under NC70SE 4).

J Wordsworth (Wordsworth Archaeological Services) 2 June 1997; NMRS MS 961/28, nos.7/1 and 7/2
