Archaeology Notes

NC64SE 31 c. 696 448

See also NC64SE 30.

The remains of a 'Druidical Temple' existed at Langdale (NC 696 448). It consisted of a circle 100ft in diameter, surrounded by a trench whose upcast formed a bank and in the centre was a standing stone.

G A Cooke 1810.

This earthwork was not located during field investigation.

Visited by OS (J L D) 11 May 1960.

This earthwork was not located. Cooke is possibly referring to the fortified enclosure at NC 6973 4495, which is in the Langdale area (See NC64SE 30). No trace or local knowledge of a standing stone was found at the above-mentioned site.

Visited by OS (J B) 12 December 1978.
