No trace could be found of a pillbox visible on WW II RAF vertical air photographs (NLA 16, 614-615, flown 22 June 1941) on the S shore of the Peerie Sea approximately where a modern camping site now stands. The pillbox stood in an area which has now been altered by the realignment of the road.
The pillbox is still visible on 1946 imagery (CPE/Scot/UK 118, 4174-4175, flown 10 October 1946). It is not known when the structure was removed.
