No trace could be found of a pillbox visible on WW II RAF vertical air photographs (NLA 16, 617-618, flown 22 June 1941) about 100m SE of the junction between the A965 and the northern extension to the main airfield runway. The pillbox is still visible on 1946 imagery (CPE/Scot/UK 118, 4176-4177, flown 10 October 1946). It is not known when the structure was removed.
