HY34NE 2 3979 4860.

A large cave famous for the fact that twelve Jacobite officers took refuge in it for three months.

Name Book 1880.

Located on the coast edge.

This cave is reached by descending a long sloping ledge to the south side of Noup Head. It is said to have been used as a refuge by Jacobite lairds from the North Isles in 1746. (See also HY54SW10). This site was not inspected.

Gentlemen's Cave HY 3978 4859 HY34NE

This sea-cave, reached by descending a long sloping ledge on the spectacular cliffs S of Noup Head, is a less commodious hiding-place than the Rapness one (no. 169), but traditionally it also was used by the same four lairds in 1746.
