Two roofed buildings situated on the E side of an enclosure are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Orkney and Shetland [Orkney] 1882, sheet xciv, are also shown on the OS 1:10000 scale map (1988) as roofed.
The buildings were used as Twatt Airfield Commanding Officer's cotttage, garage and stores. On the 1940 Department of Works (Air Ministry 4692/45) plan the buildings are also annotated as 'Qunni Smithy'.
