Recorded from OS 1:10000 scale map (OS 1973).

(Undated) information in NMRS.

The bomb store for Sumburgh Airfield is situated on Wils Ness to the E of the runways. The store consisted of five medium sized storage buildings with one large shed and a further three earth banked blast shelters. The large building was equipped with zig-zag blast walls. In addition there were several huts and Nissen huts associated with this bomb store.

The bomb store is visible on RAF WW II (WL 10 1 131- 1 132, flown 4 July 1942) and postwar vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 97, 4029-4030, flown 18 May 1946) both sorties show that the earth banked blast shelters were added later in the war.

The whole area was cleared during the expansion to an airport in the 1970s and no trace survives of the bomb store in this area.
