Archaeology Notes

HU31SE 34.07 39285 10605

The control tower is situated within the technical area of the airfield within the angle created by runways on the W side.

The tower is visible on RAF WW II vertical air photogrpahs (WL 10, 2.120-2.121, flown 4 July 1942), immediately to the N of two aircraft hangars. The tower is also visible on a postwar series of air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 97, 4029-4030, flown 18 May 1946), which by this date had a letter identification of 'UM' mark added immediately forward .

The tower was upgraded and substantially modified as part of the modernisation in the 1970s.

INformation from RCAHMS (DE), December 2005
