Archaeology Notes

HU27NE 22 28149 76812

For (associated) parish church and churchyard (HU 28302 77124), see HU27NE 21.

This manse, comprising a formal two and a half storey whitewashed T-plan building with out-house and two farm buildings set at right angles to the SE corner of the large walled garden, is situated on the edge of Hillswick at East Ayre Strand. The farm buildings are low single storey ranges of random rubble construction. There is fragmentary evidence for a third range to the E, which would have made this originally a small U-plan steading. There is also a formal walled garden on the NE.

Information from RCAHMS (AD) 7 July 2004.

This site was visited as part of the RCAHMS Scottish Farm Buildings Survey on 11 October 1994.
