OS 6"map, Shetland, 2nd ed., (1903).

Two Enclosures:

'A' is so close to the sea-cliff that its sea-ward half has been eroded away. It consists of a roughly circular excavated hollow, about 36' 9" in diameter, the material from which has been piled up to form an enclosing mound.

'B' is better preserved, though it also is at the cliff edge. It is an excavated hollow D-shaped on plan and measuring about 27' 8" by 28' 8" within a mound about 3' high and varying in thickness from 8' to 12'. The interior is 1'6" below the level of the ground outside.

RCAHMS 1946, visited 1930.

The remains of two oval enclosures "A" and "B", formed by turf covered stone walls, generally as described by RCAHMS. The larger "B", measures c.16.0m by c.13.5m crest to crest with walls c.2.5m thick. Both have been eroded by the sea.

Also, at HU 1844 6103, a typical 'Neolitchic-Bronze Age House, c.10.0m by c.7.5m formed by a stony bank at the edges of which an outer wall face can be traced. The S end is flat, with an entrance, and suggestions of a forecourt outside. Several field walls immediately to the N may be associated, but they have been considerably mutilated by the building of several plantycrubs.

Enclosures "A" and "B" may be associated with the house.

Part Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (RL) 19 June 1968.

Scheduled with HU16SE 13 and HU16SE 20 as Northbanks, settlement and burnt mound, Papa Stour.

Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 6 November 1995.
