Activities

Photographic Survey (1955)

Photographs of buildings in Galashiels by the Scottish National Buildings Record in 1955.

Standing Building Recording (25 October 2018 - 26 October 2018)

NT 49116 36062 A historic building survey was undertaken,

25–26 October 2018, of a former church and church hall

located at Gala Park prior to the demolition of the hall and

the renovation of the church.

St Aidans Church was constructed to a design by

R Thornton Shiells and Thomson (1879–80) and is a

fine example of an unaltered mid-Victorian Gothic style

building. It was built as a South United Presbyterian Church

at a cost of £5000. The brick-built church hall, which is

located to the SW of the church, dates to 1939 and was

designed by Lorimer and Matthew. Originally constructed

as a separate building, it was linked to the church in the

later 20th century.
