14 August 1962. A wreck was found giving the least clear water depth by echosounder of 45.7 metres in a general water depth of 54.2 metres.

Report by HMS SCOTT 1962.

3 August 1977. The site was located on the 3 March 1977 and examined on the 12 March 1977 at position 56 13 40N, 002 14 04W. The least clear water was 43.6 metres in a general water depth of 51 metres. The side scan sonar indicated a height of 5.9 metres, length 60 metres (196 feet), lying with its keel on an orientation of 065/245 degrees. The vessel is about 700 metres NW of the 41.8 metre peak in the seabed, and appears upright and intact. Report by HMS FOX. This is possibly the wreck of the BALLOCHBUIE (see 56 13 00N, 002 18 00W).

(Location entered as NO 8546 0393 [N56 13.6667 W2 14.0667]). UKHO chart no. 190 (1978, revised 1996) charts this wreck [Wk] at depth 43m in a general depth of about 45m. No seabed-type is charted nearby. The charted location lies about 11nm ENE of the Isle of May.

In the apparent absence of sonar imagery or detailed survey, the equation of this wreck with the recorded loss of the Ballochbuie (NO80SW 8003) remains unverified.
