Surveying Details

24 March 1919. A wreck is reported at position 56 12 20N, 002 33 10W.

Report by Senior Naval Officer, Granton.

11 May 1953. The site was not found during survey.

28 August 1960. The site was not located. Report by HMS SCOTT 1959. Senior Naval Officer, Granton's report of 1919 is thought likely to refer to the sinking of HMS NORTHUMBRIA. See 56 12 26N, 002 34 43W.

19 January 1994. Nothing was found at the listed position but minor debris, possibly snagged by fishing net. The site was examined on the 19 August 1993 at 56 12 45.2N, 002 33 49.8W. The site swept clear at 36 metres, but caught the wire at 36.5 metres. The least clear water depth given by the echosounder was 36 metres in a general water depth of 37.7 metres. No scour pit was observed. The side scan sonar trace indicates a height of 2.2 metres above the seabed, length 8 metres (26 feet), and breadth 8 metres (26 feet).
