The Kelso war memorial stands on the east side of Bridge Street. Designed by the architect Sir Robert Lorimer in 1921, the war memorial resembles a medieval Scottish mercat cross, with a cross-headed shaft standing on a pedestal, which contains a niche within which is a sculpture of St George slaying the dragon, a symbol for the triumph of good over evil. The cross has an octagonal stepped base, with, on four of the faces, stone panels, flanked by short balustrades, containing bronze plaques with the names of the fallen. The monument is enclosed by low walls with iron railings.
